A blog about stuff and things..

I started blogging in 2001 when my best friend Lucas Nealan built me a custom hand-made blog. The whole thing was very personal and fun. I wrote about everything and developed many friendships along the way. I promise not to turn this into a story about trudging through snow to get to school, but seriously, back then blogging wasn’t super easy. We didn’t have things like Wordpress, Livejournal, Blogger etc. However, I must admit, those were some of my most enjoyable blog entries and when I had the fire to write every day. My blog didn’t have comments on it, so all communication about my entries were done over email. Maybe I’ll dig some of those up and post them here. It is fun to travel back in time and see a snapshot of who you once were. I’ve changed a lot in some ways and I haven’t changed at all in others.

So, why another blog? Well, I don’t have anywhere else to put my personal thoughts. Sexiest Geeks Alive is a pretty narrow writing concept. It is a lot of fun, but if I want to rant about something or talk about my walk to work and what I thought about along the way, it might not be a fit. My Zivity blog is all business time and Facebook is now a strange mixture of personal + work. I need someplace to just be myself and Cyantology has always been that home for me. I’m looking forward to coming back home.

I’d like to take a moment to talk about the amazing person who designed this blog for me, Enrique Gutierrez (nrek on Twitter). We’ve been working on a few projects together now and he’s amazing to work with. I have such a fun time brainstorming and coming up with ideas with him. Enrique came up with the entire concept himself and I’m so happy. The first webpage I’ve ever had that I was in love with was my Twitter page and he designed that as well. This is now my second.

Thank you Enrique for bringing me back home.

  • I've had my Live Journal since November 2002, so it is absolutely cringe-worthy, yet amazing to check out how I was feeling, what I was writing about, how I wrote back, etc etc.

And to those with time to spare, just reading through all of the entries, seeing the changes and growth, got dang. I was fifteen when I started that.
  • Yeah, isn't it fascinating? Sometimes I wonder who wrote the stuff. Who was that person? I've found some emails that I can't believe were written by me at all.

I'm looking forward to looking back at this in 20 years and wondering who I will be then :)

    No more LED sign? :(
  • Hi Cyan nice layout! i was wondering about the social section of your sidebar is that a plug in or custom?
  • @decius sent you a tweet about this. the physical sign was actually stolen. let me know where to get another one and i'd set it up again. i need to integrate it into wordpress.

@kirk that's a great question. i'll ask nrek what he did there - he designed this site and built that.
  • Hey, I think you're pretty inspirational in the tech world, so I found your blog via following you on twitter. I also have a zillion blogs & I agree that you need one for your own personal musings and such. Also, the design is rockin'. Look forward to reading more. :)

  • Wow, I'm sorry that I didn't approve this sooner.

Thank you so much! That means a lot to me. Let me know if you end up at any conferences or find yourself in downtown SF - I'd love to get coffee.
